The mysteries of universal powers collide with popular-media imagery in Stephanie Hatch’s mixed-media collage works, grappling with existential questions of beauty, identity, and transformation, particularly in relation to the way society speaks of, and seeks to possess, women’s lives and bodies. Poetic elements of text are woven into her work, revealing themes of nature, emotional struggles, and eroticism that redefine the unrealistic expectations presented in women’s beauty and fashion magazines.
