A Statement and Bio about Stephanie’s work in this show:

Stephanie Hatch has been an artist her entire life. She spent her childhood in rural Southern Oregon and started exhibiting her work in high school, going on to study at Lewis & Clark College, abroad in Angers, France, and at Southern Oregon University, where she earned her BA in Art in 2006. After several years in Oakland, CA, where her work was included in over 20 shows in 4 years, she returned to Portland, OR, in 2017 where she’s active in the exhibition and pop-up market scene. Her work is in many private collections as well as the permanent collection at the University of Oregon, and has been published in a number of publications, including Portland’s Buckman Journal.

In this collection of work, entitled P O W E R, Stephanie uses analog collage and vibrantly hued paint to create portraits that celebrate the inherent power of women.  She is inspired by the strong, loving women in her life, which started with her mother and grandmother with whom she spent much time as a child.  Images of plants and the cosmos are prevalent in Stephanie’s work, representing forces and cycles greater than humankind, and as a respectful nod to her childhood where she grew up on six acres in the woods and spent her free time contemplating the natural world around her.  These portraits create new realities that contradict the material desires of consumerism represented in the magazines that were cut apart for the collages, and are intended to elevate the spirit, inspire wonder, and show respect for the everyday goddesses around us.
