Join us on the evening of May 4th in downtown Portland’s Pearl District for the opening reception of Other Side of the Mountain, at Frame Central.
Excitement for the natural world and rainbows courses through Stephanie Hatch’s newest body of work, Other Side of the Mountain. In this collection Stephanie addresses analog collage in a painterly way, combining fragments of found images with hand-painted acrylic “color paths''. The results are surreal landscapes that revisit dreamscapes possibly conjured by her childhood imagination, an imagination in which she discovered magical worlds accessed through mirror portals, secret garden passageways, or that were an epic journey away, on the other side of the mountain. These worlds are free of the stresses and destruction of the modern world, and embrace joy, playfulness, and the thrill of opening a new box of crayons to reveal a perfect rainbow of possibility glowing up from the darkness.
Stephanie Hatch is a multi-media artist, currently living and working in the Pacific Northwest. Stephanie studied art at Lewis & Clark College, abroad in Angers, France, and at Southern Oregon University, where she earned her BA in Art in 2006.
